How would you describe the Morton difference to existing and potential customers?

Morton Food Service may be the kind of distributor that you have always been looking for. Because we deal exclusively with the independent segment of the food service industry, you come first—not the multi-unit chain restaurant down the street. Our order fill rates are second to none in the industry and because we are a little smaller, we have many advantages over some of the bigger players.

In your experience, what value does this collaborative approach to client service provide to foodservice operators?

Our approach and attention to detail will make your purchasing experience the best it can be. This dedication gives operators the time to work on promoting their business, training staff or any number of other things that will improve the dining experience for their customers. A happy customer means a returning customer.

What previous experience do you have in food service, and how do your knowledge and skills help support independent operators?

I don’t have any previous experience because I’ve been in this type of role for over 40 years. My experience is doing exactly what I did today and everyday. That experience helps me help you.

Tell us about a time you went above and beyond to help a customer.

I remember a specific incident about 10 years ago when I received a call from a customer whose business was struggling to turn a profit. The customer asked how they could buy better. After a few exploratory questions, I determined that their purchasing habits weren’t the problem. I offered to spend some time costing their menu and found that they were undervaluing many of their menu offerings. With some adjustments to their menu and a few other efficiency adjustments throughout the restaurant, I’m happy to say that they were able to turn their fortune around and that business is still alive and well today.

What is the best part of your job?

The best part of my job would have to be the people I get to engage with on a daily basis. I consider my customers my friends and although I get a lot of satisfaction out of seeing their businesses thrive, I get an equal amount of satisfaction out of knowing I’ve made many friends along the way.
